On 3 February 2021, ISN celebrated World Read Aloud Day. Normally on this day we have a team of volunteer parents who come in to school and read stories to the different classes in their native languages, but of course this was not possible as all of our Learning Partners were at home due to the Covid-19 lockdown and school closures here in Germany. The children were encouraged to find a favourite story, a short poem, a joke, a page from a book, some news or any fun reading, make a video of themselves reading it, and send it in to school. Some Learning Partners chose to read to a sibling, some parents read to their children, some Mentors chose their favourite book to read to their students, and we even had one Learning Partner who wrote and illustrated her own story and then read it aloud. It was lovely to hear everyone’s favourite stories and discover new books.
