Welcome back Jacques

We are delighted to welcome back Jacques Marais as our new Head of Secondary to our IS Neustadt community. Jacques will be officially starting with us on 1st May 2017. In this short interview we asked Jacques to address a number of questions which we felt were of interest.

When did you last work here at ISN and what was your job role?

I was employed at ISN from 2006 to 2011. I started as a teacher of Geography; Grades 6 - 8 Combined Sciences and Middle School Coordinator. I acted as the IGCSE Coordinator from 2008 till 2011 and was promoted to Head of Secondary in 2009. I left ISN in July 2011 and was employed at the British International School Istanbul as Middle School Principal.

What was your previous position?

In August 2013 I was employed at the SBW International School Ruhr as Head of School. At IS Ruhr I also acted as IGCSE Coordinator and IBDP Coordinator Designate and lead the School through its IBDP Authorisation in 2014.

What are the main reasons why ISN is such a special place to work?

Children inspire me with their natural curiosity towards understanding, and making sense of the world. I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of students, both academically and socially. Therefore, I will always remember my previous employment at ISN fondly, as the philosophy of the ISN, as an SBW school, empowered me to contribute to the holistic development of the school’s LPs inside and outside of the class room. It was amazing to see how students became confident, empowered, and well-balanced citizens of our learning house.

And finally, what are your main priorities for the coming months?

I would like to get to know each and every students and teacher at ISN. My aim is to create an atmosphere where every student will feel appreciated, respected and treated fairly. I would like to foster a learning culture where every student achieves to the maximum of their potential and talents and at the same time be open-minded, reflective and balanced individuals.

Thank you Jacques and wishing you all the best for your new start here at ISN!
