Cambridge Advanced AS/A Level (ages 16-18)

The esteemed International AS & A Level programme at ISN focuses on five core subjects (Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics) in the form of classical classroom teaching, along with an additional 15+ subjects offered online via a self-study pathway. After being the first school in Germany to implement Century Tech, an AI-driven learning platform which focuses on differentiating and tailoring learning content to individual users, ISN became the first school in Germany to offer this innovative hybrid approach towards the International AS & A Level programme. Learning partners and their families take a more active role in deciding upon their own educational paths and each have a completely individualized curriculum, schedule and academic focus. Coaches are on hand to guide learning partners with their subject choices and act as mentors throughout the two-year programme.

The Cambridge International AS & A Level programme, recognized around the world, including Germany, is structured as follows:

  • In Year 11, students complete four subjects. They sit exams at the end of this year.
  • In Year 12, students continue with three of these subjects and sit exams for these three subjects at the end of this year.
  • Students graduate with three A-Level subjects and one AS-Level subject.
  • An A-Level subject consists of two years of study, and an AS-Level subject consists of one year of study.

ISN’s A-Level programme is a blend of in-house and elective subjects, offering our students a superb tailor-made programme with the flexibility to take a large range of subjects such as Computer Science, History, Law, etc. This approach ensures our students can personalize their learning experience at ISN. Students who wish to only take face-to-face subjects from the five offered are also welcome to do so. Self-study electives are completed through a separate service provider. ISN assigns a coach to support the student’s progress through the self-study programme.

Common self-study elective subjects include:

  • Accounting (9706)
  • History (9489)
  • Business (9609)
  • Law (9084)
  • Economics (9708)
  • Marine Science (9693)
  • Classical Studies (9274)
  • Psychology (9990)
  • Computer Science (9618)
  • Sociology (9699)
  • Geography (9696)
  • Thinking Skills (9694)

The A-level programme is recognized by state and private universities in Germany as well as internationally. Unlike most schools and programmes in Germany, ISN allows its students to focus on their passions by individualizing their subject choices in Years 11 and 12, allowing them to be better-prepared for the academic challenges which await them at universities in Germany, the EU, and abroad.
